Mireia Sallarès studied Fine Arts at the Universitat de Barcelona and film at the New School University and the Film & Video Arts, New York. An independent documentary filmmaker, she lives between Barcelona, Mexico City and other cities, where she carries out her artistic projects. Sallarès uses video as an anthropological and sociological research tool, but also as a narrative instrument capable of producing stories based on the complexity of reality. Politically and socially committed, her work focuses on women's groups and real stories of people from all over the world, including France, the United States, Mexico and Venezuela, often linked to issues of immigration and adaptation to other people's contexts. She analyses the world as an outsider, using interventions and interviews in the public space, or other types of support, to reflect on concepts such as truth, violence, pleasure, memory and status. She uses the documentary foray to give voice to the people she implicates in her work.

She has exhibited at the Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona; Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Mexico City; American Society, New York; Organización Nelson Garrido, Caracas; Centro Cultural Montehermoso, Vitoria; Laznia Centre for Contemporary Art, Gdansk (Poland); Galleri Image d'Aarhus (Denmark); OK Centrum, Linz (Austria); and the Capella MACBA, Barcelona, among others.
