Mariona Moncunill combines artistic practice with teaching and research. She has a BA in Fine Arts and an MA in Cultural Management from the University of Barcelona, and a PhD in Society of Information and Knowledge from the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). She studied at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten, The Hague; and has been a researcher at the Institut für Soziologie, Martin-Luther-Universtät Halle-Wittenberg, Germany; and at the Instituto Tecnológico Metropolitano (ITM), Medellín, Colombia. Conceived and produced specifically for the context where it is being developed, Moncunill's work explores the forms of creation of symbolic value and the epistemological residues that shape today's social and cultural conventions. Hence, she has explored several fields of knowledge such as botany, museography, library economy, as well as time and longitude measurement. Within this creative framework, she has focused part of her projects on research around the social construction of nature based on distinct study cases, such as institutions, social practices or specific territories.

She has had solo exhibitions at Capella de Sant Roc, Valls, 2007; Espai Cultural Caja Madrid, Barcelona, 2010; Espai 13, Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona, 2012; MAC, Mataró, 2017; Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), 2018; and Alfolí de la Sal, L'Escala, 2023; among others.
