Born in Paris in 1983 and of Colombian origin, Marcos Ávila Forero lives and works between Bogotá and Paris. His videos and installations analyse aspects of the past and present from the perspective of collective memory and ethnography. By submerging the viewer in complex and often violent situations, the artist enhances local realities in Colombia and other locations, denouncing forced displacement and the migratory phenomenon, as well as neo-imperialism and post-colonialism today. The landscape, native materials and objects, and sound have a dominating presence in his work. Since 2005, Ávila Forero has been exhibiting regularly in contemporary art spaces in France, Colombia and other European and American countries. Among many others, he has exhibited at the Centro de Arte Casa la Redada, Bogotá (2012) and the Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2013). His work is in collections such as the Fonds national d'art contemporain, France; Fondation d'entreprise Hermès, France; Artothèque, Brest; and MACBA, Barcelona.
