Katarina Pierre is director of the Bildmuseet at Umeå University, Sweden. She holds a Master of Arts in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmith´s College in London, UK. Pierre has been instrumental for the artistic profile of Bildmuseet, first as curator from 1995 and then as artistic director from 2010, and it’s focus on international contemporary art where post-colonial issues has had a prominent position. She has curated highly acclaimed exhibitions by artists such as Zineb Sedira, Naeem Mohaiemen, Grada Kilomba, John Akomfrah, Larissa Sansour, Do Ho Suh, Ana Mendieta, Jumana Emil Abboud, Dayanita Singh, Isac Julien, Walid Raad and Tracey Rose. Together with Lisa Le Feuvre she curated the exhibition Nancy Holt / Inside Outside presented at Bildmuseet in 2022-2023 and co-edited the accompanying publication (Monacelli Press).
