Jaume Ferrete (Mollet del Vallès, Barcelona, 1980) is a graduate in Fine Art from the University of Barcelona and lectures at BAU, Centre Universitari d’Arts i Disseny de Barcelona. He uses performance, concerts and sound work in different formats to turn the human voice into an element of research and experimentation. He explores how categories of class, gender and power run through the human voice and how, despite its apparent neutrality, the voice is imbued with clearly political categories. Setting out from a critical approach to technology and through performance, Ferrete has also explored the relations we establish with synthetic voices, like Alexa or Siri.
He has staged his performances, concerts and sound sessions at venues like La Capella in Barcelona (2021), MACBA in Barcelona (2020) and the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo Ciudad de México (2017), among many others. He has given lectures at institutions such as KASK in Ghent, the University of Essex and CENDEAC in Murcia. His work can be found in collections including that of MACBA in Barcelona.
