Gabriel Ventura (Granollers, 1988) is a poet whose work extends to other areas, such as performance, cinema and research. Highlights among his recent publications include W (2017; expanded new edition: 2019); Apunts per a un incendi dels ulls (2020) and La nit portuguesa (2021), an account of the shooting of Liberté, the film by Albert Serra. He is also the author of Passió i cartografia per a un incendi dels ulls, a text/action performed at MACBA in 2022.
Apunts per a un incendi dels ulls gave its name to a collective exhibition at MACBA devoted to the local art scene (Notes for an Eye Fire, 2021–2022). Before this, the book was presented in a 24-hour performance in the window of the bookshop Documenta.
He often works together with the artist Rosa Tharrats, with whom he has co-directed the short films Els miracles del Mestre Cabestany (2023) and El riu era verd i blau i groc (2024), screened at Manifesta 15 and at Márgenes Festival.
He has been chosen for the Montserrat Roig scholarship and undertaken several literary residences, including Residència Finestres. His work has been featured at festivals and venues including einaidea, Festival Loop, Eufònic, Bòlit, Fundació Brossa, Bombon Projects, Fundació Tàpies, Festival Eñe, Festival Veu, Barcelona Poesia, Venice Biennial (Catalan Pavilion, 2019) and Poesia i +, among others. His poems have also been translated into English, French, Greek, Dutch, Turkish and Portuguese. He has also written articles and short stories for journals and publishers including Males Herbes, A*DESK, Branca, Quiasmo, Catalunya Plural, Reliquiae Journal and Berlin Quarterly. He currently lectures at BAU Centre Universitari d’Arts i Disseny.
