Austrian artist Florian Pumhösl was born in 1971 in Vienna, the city where he lives and works. Since the early nineties, he has been developing a conceptual body of work based on a critical revision of the legacy of modernity. Through his installations, films and series of painted glass, he explores the meaning and scope of the modern aesthetic, and posits them as a system of references for the first artistic and architectural avant-gardes in Europe and Japan. From an appropriationist perspective, he himself positions his work somewhere between art, historical research and critical thought. His works have been shown in galleries and museums around the world, including New York, Munich, Berlin, London, Los Angeles and Shanghai.
