Fernando Villaverde is a Cuban film-maker and writer. He was a film-maker at the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (ICAIC), where he directed the shorts “El parque” (1963, documentary) and “Elena” (1964, fiction), as well as the fictional feature film “El mar”, production of which was interrupted by the censors. After going into exile in 1965, he was linked to the New York experimental film scene, making shorts like “Apollo, Man to the Moon” (1970) and “A Lady’s Home Journal” (1972). Highlights among his books include “Los labios pintados de Diderot” (Letras de Oro Prize, 1992) and “La irresistible caída del muro de Berlín” (2016).
