The Third Landscape Safari
The hectic pace of life in Barcelona leaves little time for a prolonged experience of contemplation and analysis. Within the city are the remains of its past: residual or resistant spaces that are common in large cities; places with an uncertain future amidst the rapidity of urban development.
The architect and garden designer Gilles Clément coined the concept of the ‘third landscape’ to refer to the forms of plant life that appear and appropriate these residual spaces.
This encounter takes the form of a photographic and drawing safari, in which we go hunting for evidence of Barcelona’s third landscape, and capture and imagine the urban present and future through the natural life-forms that arise in the old factories of Poblenou. In collaboration with Catarina Botelho.
