Approximations to the work of Antoni Tàpies
Directed by Manuel J. Borja Villel.
This course offers a fresh critical reading of the work of Antoni Tàpies taking as its starting point a central element in his work, the material, its genesis and the concepts of dynamism and the sense of change that are implicit in its manipulation.
An analysis will be offered of the poetics of his work, characterised as it is by the use he makes of signs and footprints, based both on an understanding of the local context after the Civil War, and on a broader sense of the context provided by the poetics of the Cold War and the hegemony of late modernism.
In this sense, the course sets out to reflect on the artistic model that Tàpies develops and the consequences that his works and his writings have had in the consolidation of an artistic modernity that is specific to the local context, and that, in certain aspects, still remains hegemonic.
