The End of an Era? On the Current Inflexion of the Neighbourhood Movement

Round table with Marc Andreu, Albert Recio and Elia Herranz
Gregori Civera, "Casas Baratas", 2023

The success of Barcelona’s urban planning and development during the period of the 1992 Olympic Games was characterised by productive dialogue between the neighbourhood movement and the municipal government. In this present time, with the classic neighbourhood movement losing ground in the face of new forms of social activism that stem from the social movements that emerged at the turn of the century, the question arises as to the future evolution of Barcelona’s urbanism.

Marc Andreu, historian and journalist. Director of the Centro de Estudios e Investigación Sindicales (CERES) at Comisiones Obreras de Cataluña and co-director of the journal Trabajo
Albert Recio, PhD in Economics. Lecturer in the Department of Applied Economics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Social activist.
Elia Herranz, journalist. Works at Carrer magazine and is a member of the FAVB (Federation of Neighbourhood Associations of Barcelona) technical team.
