As part of the Project a Black Planet exhibition, MACBA presents a lecture by Fred Moten on artworks and art institutions in relation to the challenge of blackness in the present day.

In Fred Moten’s words, his lecture at MACBA will consider “how an ensemble of prœpositional approaches to the (very idea of the) work of art (and the supporting institutions that derive from it and share its metaphysical foundations) might make possible something like a subpositional or postpositional attitude suitable for extending and enriching blackness’ challenge to the emergent occasion, the long now, within which we operate”.

This lecture is presented within the framework of Project a Black Planet: The Art and Culture of Panafrica and School of Common Knowledge programmes. It’s organised in partnership with Sâlmon Festival, where Moten is presenting a two-day seminar leading to his talk at MACBA.
