Possible Futures

With Mpho Matsipa, Elvira Dyangani Ose and Anisia Uzeyman. Moderated by Asha Best

Black Urbanities. Black Politics in the City

Mpho Matsipa, Elvira Dyangani Ose, Anisia Uzeyman

Architect and urbanist Mpho Matsipa, in conversation with MACBA’s Director and cultural researcher Elvira Dyangani Ose, and geographer Asha Best, propose the city as a space to reimagine emancipatory Black futures.

While urban planning seeks to anticipate and instrumentalize the future, urban life is always multiple and contested. How then have black residents sought to enable a future in conditions where it was thought they had none? In the face of ever emerging technologies of future making, how does blackness interrupt the expected trajectories largely defined by powers external to it?

MACBA Thirty

We celebrate Year Thirty of an infinite MACBA that projects the future as a space for revision and possibility: of taking up what was left unfinished, updating what needs it and projecting anew everything that can still be transformed.
