How can we translate our collective experiences and knowledge of weather into a set of shared tools – patterns, stories, imagery – for navigating climate uncertainty? This event aims to blend the Ràdio Web MACBA Working Group’s dynamics of collective learning and thinking-by-doing with the work of feminist collective Open-weather.

In this workshop we will use open-source software and low-cost hardware to build DIY Satellite Ground Stations in order to receive transmissions from three US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites in orbit, NOAA-15, NOAA-18, and NOAA-19. These belong to a family of satellites that have been orbiting Earth since the 1970s when there was still little public awareness around global warming. What can we learn from tuning in to their glitch-prone yet accessible automatic picture transmissions? We will end the workshop with a scale-shifting exercise, zooming out from our bodies to the vast scale of whole weather systems, to produce a collective weather reading.
