Mediaturgias, operaciones de montaje y etnoficciones
Performative conference within the framework of the PEI: Methods of Collective Creation module.
On the occasion of their participation as guest artists in the María Teresa Hincapié: If This Were a Beginning of Infinity exhibition at MACBA, the founders and directors of Mapa Teatro, Heidi and Rolf Abderhalden, will give a presentation as part of the PEI based on their artistic career, and will also explain the principles, tactics and production methods of their most recent ethnofictions. For forty years, this artists’ laboratory located in Bogotá, Colombia has continued developing un-disciplined work that cuts across different media and transcends artistic disciplines. Its founders and directors, Heidi and Rolf Abderhalden, are transdisciplinary artists, trained in the fields of dramaturgy and visual art, and are pioneers of the concept of live arts in Latin America. From the framework of theatre to the public space, passing through the museum, cinema and radio, Mapa Teatro has expanded its cartography to become, through multiple assembly operations, a complex laboratory of the social imagination. The establishment of temporary experimental communities and the production of ethnofictions make up two of its main thought-creation practices.
The Independent Studies Programme (PEI) is a learning tool that aims to share and disseminate part of its content via the PEI Obert programme and the La Colonie nomade project, as well as through the occasional offer of places in certain academic courses.

A space of migration, through which myth, history and topicality move continuously; intimate and public spheres; artistic languages (theatre, opera, cabaret, radio, sound and video installations, urban interventions, actions and performatic conferences); authors and epochs; geographies and languages; words, image and movement; voice, music and sound processes; simulation and reality; document and fiction, poetics and politics. Hence Mapa Teatro’s interest in the creative processes and live events; in the translation and transposition of writings and scenic scores; and in the operation of putting together documentation, archives and fictions.
Mapa Teatro generates processes of artistic research and experimentation that are developed in diverse spheres and scenarios of Colombian reality. They are laboratories of social imagination.
