May I Help You?

May I Help You? looks at the way in which art functions to legitimize social hierarchies. Moving through six different voices and social positions, the script is based on interviews with artists, collectors, dealers, as well as people not involved with contemporary art. The work was originally performed by actors in 1991 at American Fine Arts Co., New York, in an exhibition of Allan McCollum’s Plaster Surrogates, and was later adapted for performance by the artist in other venues. Andrea Fraser will perform this work within her own exhibition at the MACBA.
