Let’s visit the exhibition ”In the Troubled Air…” at CCCB
We invite MACBA Friends to discover the new temporary exhibition at CCCB together with the venue’s head of the Exhibition Department, Jordi Costa.
The exhibition “In the Troubled Air…” offers an intense, thoughtful look at how European art has represented emotions through images. Inspired by Federico García Lorca’s concept of duende (which can be translated as a heightened state of inspiration and passion), the exhibition takes its title from a line in the poem “Romance de la luna, luna” symbolising the emotional atmosphere created between the work of art and the observer. It is in this intangible space –between observer and image– that the emotional power of art emerges.
The exhibition sees images as spaces for transmitting emotions, offering a critical aesthetic experience based on over 300 works selected by philosopher and curator Georges Didi-Huberman, one of the leading figures in contemporary visual thought. In a world marked by an over-production of images, this proposition invites the viewer to stop and look, in order to regain a more profound relationship with the visual. Emotions are not only experienced individually, but also transmitted collectively, and this exhibition explores their range of channels: from facial expressions to the temporal and spatial dimension of the aesthetic experience.
With work by creative talents like Dalí, Miró, Picasso, Goya, Rodin, Goethe, Pasolini, Colita, Camarón and Giacometti, among many others, the exhibition is structured as a kind of poetic, intuitive journey. Paintings, sculptures, photographs, films, texts and musical compositions dialogue with one another to trace a map of feelings, bringing out their ethical and political dimension.
