Laibach presenta "Kunst der Fuge"

Concert

To coincide with the opening of the exhibition Museum of Parallel Narratives (1956-1986). In the framework of l’Internationale, Slovenian industrial band Laibach presents its singular interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Art of Fugue at the MACBA. This show is not one of Laibach’s usual concerts, but a performative installation, a concert for a cross-shaped chess board for four players (Kreuzschach und vier Schachspieler), with sound and visual effects. The event is dedicated to Bach, Schönberg, Kraftwerk, George Hope Verney, Fischer and Spassky.

Laibach, which has been linked to the visual arts collective IRWIN since 1984, and the group Gledališče Sester Scipion Nasice, make up the aesthetic movement NSK (Neue Slowenische Kunst), which is considered to be one of the most powerful and controversial artistic experiences of recent decades. Their music mixes elements of popular culture with the subversion of politics, high culture with subcultural provocations, and questions the ‘normal’ expectations of art and politics in a post-industrial, post-cold war era. Right from the outset, Laibach has sought a symbolic and ideological rupture, bringing together Nazi-fascist, Stalinist and Slovenian and Yugoslavian nationalist elements.
