A vocabulary for Contemporary Artistic Culture
Course/Conference series
Each Autumn the Museum offers a course/conference series that will give participants the conceptual tools necessary to debate the contemporary artistic practices encompassed by the Museum's collection, all from the latter half of the 20th century.
This year the course has one difference: instead of presenting a program revolving around a monographic theme, this will be a first-time contribution towards an updating of the cultural/artistic lexicon of the 21st century. This program hopes to define central concepts, as well as offer an historical reading of the trajectory of some 21st century concepts, and a prospective direction in which to lay the groundwork for the emerging culture.
The sessions present themselves as attempts to define key words, though the way in which each session approaches this definition can by dynamically different.
Participants include Douglas Crimp, Jonathan Flatley and Rosalyn Deutsche, among others.
