Guided visits to The Act of Filming: Video in the MACBA Collection
Led by Avalancha
Every Saturday, you can enjoy guided visits to The Act of Filming: Video in the MACBA Collection.
The new presentation from the MACBA Collection, The Act of Filming: Video in the MACBA Collection, brings together three different approaches to contemporary audiovisual practice: Counter-Information: Video-Nou / Servei de Vídeo Comunitari, Echoes: Videos Donated by the Han Nefkens Foundation and Pere Portabella: The Committed Gaze. The exhibition uses films and projects produced in a range of historical contexts and points in time to show how video has been used to document experiences, construct narratives, give a voice to communities, question dominant discourses and imagine different ways of looking at and explaining the world.
The visit becomes an open, living collective conversation, centring on the experience with the works on display. Rather than a guided explanation, it is a shared space to feel, think about and discuss what the collection awakens in us.
The pieces exhibited deal with issues linked to memory, representation, the construction of collective narratives, and social and political conflicts, as well as the role of images in the way we understand the past and interpret the present. At the same time, the exhibition invites us to think about who produces the images, what stories they are telling, what experiences they make visible and which ones are left out of the shot.
Activity led by Avalancha, an art and education research collective, made up of Loli Acebal, blanca arias, Renan Camilo, Marc Luguera and edu rubio.

Avalancha is an art and education research collective, currently made up of Loli Acebal, blanca arias, Marc Luguera, Edu Rubio and Renan Camilo. They work – both collectively and individually – on reappropriating images and narratives to question dominant discourses from a trans-feminist and anti-colonial standpoint.
The collective was set up in 2015 by Elena Blesa, Víctor Ramírez, Sergi Casero and Cloe Masotta. Over the last eleven years, Maria Bendito and Pol Terrés have also taken part in it.
