Contemporary art plastics and sustainability
This is a two-day open seminar on the conservation of plastics in museum collections and on sustainability. Aimed mainly to conservator-restorers and museum staff.
Given the widespread presence of plastics in the constituent materials used in contemporary art, in the materials used for its packaging and storage, as well as in some of the materials used for restoration, a deep understanding of the various types, their composition, behaviour and ageing process is essential.
Furthermore, the current inescapable need to carry out a sustainable and appropriate conservation-restoration strategy leads us to introduce changes to common practices, as well as to the replacement of certain materials.
Team responsible for the seminar:
– Silvia Noguer, Head of the MACBA Conservation-Restoration Department.
– Àlex Castro, conservator-restorer specialised in new materials.
– Lluís Roqué, conservator-restorer specialised in photography and media art.
