Beyond Injury
With Cristina Roldão and Jovan Scott Lewis. Moderated by Tania Safura Adam
Black Urbanities. Black Politics in the City
Cristina Roldao, antiracist activist and pioneer in the decolonization of educational curricula in Portugal, and Jovan Scott Lewis, one of the leading voices the politics of repair in the United States, discuss with Tania Adam the possibility of a narrative of Blackness that goes beyond injury.
The freedom struggles of the past decade have rightfully captured the spectacle of violence against Black people across urban contexts. But what if we viewed blackness as a form of life beyond injury, that used the state of injury as strategic deception, a cover for generative practices of urban inhabitation always vulnerable to depreciation and attack?
