Who facilitates mediation practices? Is there a professional figure that can be identified as a mediator? Which contractual and labour framework do they fall under? The precariousness of working conditions in which these tasks are carried out is directly linked to the vagueness of the professional profile of those who undertake them.

This meeting aims to provide a space for debate among mediation professionals to discuss the working conditions of these practices, whether in institutional contexts or independent spaces. It also seeks to explore the possibilities of creating collective spaces and professional solidarity through professional associations or other associative models. This conversation is part of the research project A Relative Space, within the framework of [contra]panorama.

Participants will include Alex Martínez from AMECUM, the Association of Cultural Mediators of Madrid, Anna Maria Andevert from ACEP, the Catalan Association of Heritage Education,  Clara Boj from PERMEA the Experimental Programme in Mediation and Education through Art, and Yolanda Jolis and Isaac Sanjuan from the MACBA Education Department, as well as members of the [contra]panorama curatorial team. Conversation moderated by Elena Blesa Cábez, independent mediator.

In 2021, MACBA launched the triennial Panorama, which aimed to “deepen its collaboration and dialogue with local artists and cultural agents”. [contra]panorama, the second edition of Panorama retains the same aim but works towards it through a year-long series of interventions that take the project’s title literally, in order to question both the continuing relevance of the triennial (or biennial) format and its capacity to offer a panoramic image of the present.
