El orden del tiempo

Estudio Barozzi Veiga, SLP

This proposal was designed to be a continuation of the ideas and logic of the 1980 Raval ordinance plan, directed by Lluis Clotet in collaboration with Òscar Tusquets, Francesc Bassó and other architects, called Del Liceu al Seminari. That plan defined the square, giving it its unique, original character. Thus, this project was conceived, essentially, as one more piece added to the series of structures that surround the square. An outwardly independent new building, designed to complement this heterogeneous ensemble and dialogue with it.

Unidad y continuidad

UTE Camps Felip Arquitecturia, SLP, and Tuñón Arquitectos, SLP

The starting point of this proposal was the idea of constructing a new architectural work next to the Convent dels Àngels which, on the one hand, assumed the continuity values of the historical setting, and, on the other, was able to integrate the formal and constructive discontinuity of the Meier Building architecture. Like a text written with elements of the different moments of the Raval district’s history and a maximum of respect for the consolidated structures, the proposal was to construct a single grouping made up of buildings of different eras and styles, bound together by a pedestrian route covering its entire perimeter.

Dau al set

UTE Caruso St John Architects, LLP, and Bosch-Capdeferro

Through a strategy of constellations and consolidations, this project sought to integrate the museum more fully into the city around it, so that the spaces of the Plaça dels Àngels and its surroundings could establish a relationship of complicity. The construction of a new body of exhibition rooms, incorporating and relating to the spaces of the Convent dels Àngels, aimed to form a rich and diverse grouping of new art spaces. Moreover, it suggested the addition of a tiered structure as a vantage point from which to observe the square’s urban spectacle.

El MACBA dels Àngels

UTE David Chipperfield Architects and b720 Arquitectura

Rather than a simple expansion of the museum, this project proposed merging the identity of the museum with the identity of its setting. The proposal was to create a campus for the MACBA. The Plaça dels Àngels thus became an extension of the museum itself, a point of arrival and the core bringing together the different buildings that would make up the new museum grouping. The new building completed and extended the historic convent, which was to be restored. The design aimed to create a radically sustainable public building.
