Structured around six thematic areas, the exhibition critically investigates the MACBA Collection, exploring some overflows produced by art practices from the late seventies to the early nineties.

Among the many items offered here as ‘reading’, we should highlight the proliferation of musical forms that reflect the life experience of the most precarious and exploited sections of society; the collective imaginary that reinvented urban rituals; fanzine culture, residue of the consumer society as well as the Trojan horse within it; the vindication of humour as an artistic work but also in opposition to the politics of the grandiloquent; and, finally, the microhistories of re-situation, which served as a model for rethinking economics and social organisation at the heart of Thatcherism and Reaganism.

The Immaterial Legacy gathers together 109 works that are displayed alongside numerous contemporaneous publications – independent magazines, books, newspaper articles, comics, etc. – together with a sound booth in which can be heard numerous musical compilations.
