The MACBA Collection shows the evolution of avant-garde artistic practices from the first half of the twentieth century to the present. If we analyse this period, we see that one of the decisive factors is the immersion of culture in mass consumption and entertainment dynamics. The increasing political and social complexity of the international scene culminates in the globalisation process and forces us to revise existing historical models of art.

From this perspective, the MACBA Collection is a tool that transmits the traditions of the past in order to bring to light the innovations of the present. Contemporary art thus distances itself from the dominant conventions of beauty and instead plays the role of generating new spaces for reflection and debate.
The dimensions of the MACBA Collection make it impossible to exhibit it in its entirety. Instead, it is conceived as a living collection that is constantly changing in order to offer new discourses and visions of contemporary art.

Aside from our guided tour, we offer two specific projects that allow teachers to work with students in relation to the current exhibition of works from the Collection and the discursive lines that emerge from it.
