Museum of Natural Futures Experience MACBA

Part of the one-day event ‘Social Insects: Common Learning and the Pollination of Change’, this session is organised in conjunction with the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona in the aftermath of the COP21 Paris conference on climate change. The artist Natalie Jeremijenko will present some aspects of her work relating to this subject and share part of the actions being carried out in collaboration with the people and organisations of the Raval on the weekend of 6–7 February.

Jeremijenko is an artist, scientist, engineer and inventor working on environmental and urban issues. She is currently Associate Professor at the Visual Arts and Computer Science Departments of New York University. Her multidisciplinary practice takes place in the emerging field of socio-ecological systems design, in the so-called Anthropocene, the new era that followed the Industrial Revolution.

Jeremijenko uses attractions and ongoing participatory research spectacles that address the challenge of reimagining our collective relationship to natural systems, especially in an urban environment. Her method integrates diverse strategies to redesign energy, food and transportation systems that can contribute to the common good and improve human and environmental health.
