L'última mirada

Art theorists and philosophers, psychologists, anthropologists and image theorists have studied the genre of portraiture in the final stages of an artist’s life, through works by artists such as Francis Bacon, Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti. This catalogue includes the works shown in the exhibition The Last Gaze – twenty late self-portraits (1940–80) by artists born in the last half of the nineteenth century, whose faces reflect the weariness and wisdom that have been etched there by life.
