John Roberts és professor d'art i estètica a la Universitat de Wolverhampton. Ha escrit diversos llibres, entre els quals cal destacar The Art of Interruption: Realism, Photography and the Everyday (Manchester University Press, 1998), The Intangibilities of Form: Skill and Deskilling in Art After the Readymade (Verso, 2008) i The Necessity of Errors (Verso, 2011). A més, també ha publicat articles a les revistes Radical Philosophy, New Left Review, Oxford Art Journal, Historical Materialism, New Literary History, Third Text i Manifesta.
El 2008 el MACBA va convidar John Roberts a presentar una conferència al seminari "La condició del document i la utopia fotogràfica moderna", que s'ha actualitzat aquí.
